Water restrictions are to be eased in Gauteng on Monday.

The Vaal Dam was almost 100% full‚ said Department of Water Affairs spokesman Sputnik Ratau.

"This morning the Vaal dam was at 97.89% and more sluice gates have been opened. They will remain open for at least the next two days" he said.

Ratau said the lifting of the water restrictons would be gazetted on Monday with immediate effect.

"This will outline what restrictions in Gauteng are being lifted."

Sluice gates have been open since Friday at Bloemhof Dam in the North West.

However‚ "we are still in a drought"‚ said Ratau.

But good rains had had a positive effect on the Vaal integrated river system that fed mainly Gauteng‚ parts of North West and small parts of Mpumalanga and the Free State.
