Cape Town fires still raging

Fire and Rescue Services in Cape Town are still on scene in Parklands where a fire has been blazing since Monday morning.

The fire has moved towards the wetlands in the area hampering conventional fire fighting methods and vehicles.

“The fire is being fanned by a strong South Easterly wind. Smoke and ash debris from the fire will affect the Parklands‚ Sunningdale‚ Table View‚ Duynefontein and Melkbos communities” said Tracey Whittaker‚ assistant spokesperson for the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service.

Seven firefighting vehicles and 27 firefighters are on scene‚ with City of Cape Town Nature Conservation adding two teams to help assist in extinguishing the blaze.

Another fire that broke out on the slopes of Table Mountain is also still raging and fire fighting crew are receiving support from a Table Mountain National Parks team.

The cause of fires are still unknown.
