A seven-month-old baby girl was killed when she was flung from a car that rolled several times on the N2 near Umhlali‚ north of Durban‚ on Thursday night.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst said that medics had rushed to the scene.

"According to the caller who reported the accident‚ the people in the car had the baby in the vehicle and could not locate her following the accident‚" he said.

"Upon arrival‚ the mother of the child approached our medics holding her child in her arms. She advised us that the child was found a distance away from the vehicle in the bush‚" Herbst added.

Paramedics worked to stabilise the child at the scene‚ but the baby later died in hospital.

It is understood that the mother of the baby had been holding her when the car left the road and rolled.
