“Strange” Macan Moose Test

The moose test is a pertinent exercise for cars sold in Nordic regions, where swerving for one of the stray creatures is a common occurrence.

Swedish motoring publication Teknikens Varld recently put the Porsche Macan through its paces and reported that it behaved in a “strange” manner. It didn’t roll over – like models such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee previously tested by the publication had.

Instead, the Macan suffered a bout of understeer and flattened the cones on the test course.

Porsche issued a statement in response. “The brake intervention shown in the video is a deliberately applied intervention to prevent the car from rolling over. This is called Active Rollover Prevention (ARP). The precise, momentary application of brake force to the front wheel at the outside of the bend down to the low slip range minimises cornering forces to avoid critical or instable driving conditions such as oversteer, rollover or detachment of the tyre from the wheel. Situations such as these may not be controllable by the driver.”
