The Kyalami racetrack will be a hive of activity this weekend for the inaugural Motorsport Festival.
More than 400 entrants will descend on the Gauteng racetrack and the first national motorsport event to be held at the revamped circuit is expected to draw large crowds.
A full three-day programme, which starts on Friday, will comprise full grids in both four- and two-wheel categories competing in various races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
The race meeting culminates on Sunday with the new Sasol Global Touring Cars (GTC) making their long-awaited debut at Kyalami. There will be eight GTC cars representing Audi, BMW and Volkswagen as part of an 18-car grid which also features a number of other classes.
Interest is mounting regarding the Volkswagen Media and Celebrity Challenge, which is sure to provide action and a touch of glamour on and off track. Motor News editor Mark Smyth will be competing in the challenge. Race fans will be able to meet the race drivers, media and celebrities on a pit walk at lunchtime on Sunday.
The 28-race programme will also comprise more than 35 V8 race cars in a combined V8 Supercar and V8 Masters field. Racing history will be written as the two categories participate in a combined race on Sunday.
The G&H Transport Extreme Supercars are sure to thrill race fans with a full field of Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, KTM and Lamborghini entries racing for overall victory on Saturday and Sunday. Circuit owner Toby Venter, driving his Porsche 911 GTR, is among the favourites to take the chequered flag.
The Engen Volkswagen Cup, Comsol VW Challenge, Autobarn North Bolt and Tool Superhatch and 111 Saloons will provide plenty of additional four-wheeled action.
The Red Square Kawasaki ZX10R Masters and top regional motorcycle categories, including Dunlop Thunderbikes, Sub 10 and Silverton Nut and Bolt Challenge will provide exciting motorcycle racing action in six races over the two days. National Super GP Rider Lance Isaacs (BMW S1000RR) will start as favourite in the Dunlop Thunderbikes category, chased by a full field of over 45 entries.
