The last time Toyota won a World Rally Championship (WRC) event was in 1999 when driver Didier Auriol clinched the China Rally in a Castrol-sponsored Corolla WRC. The next season the manufacturer disappeared, gone until they returned to the sport at the beginning of the 2017 season with their new Yaris WRC.

And on Sunday they climbed back onto the top step of the podium when Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila won Rally Sweden by nearly  30 seconds over second-place finishers Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja. Third was taken by Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia. This victory now puts Latvala first overall in the Drivers Championship standings. – Thomas Falkiner
