New Ford Figo Eyes SA Success

Ford hopes to make an ever bigger dent in the entry-level B-segment with their next generation Figo. For the first time, the Figo will be available in two body styles; five-door hatch and the new four-door sedan. The addition of the latter variant, according to Ford, will make it even more successful – particularly in South Africa.

According to Tracey Delate, General Marketing Manager for Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa, “The Ford Figo has been a remarkable success story in South Africa since it was launched in 2010.”

It seems the automaker is serious about increasing last year’s 15 percent share of this segment. "The Figo will once again be extremely competitive in terms of overall value." Tracey said of the new Figo. The automaker explained that it has a vision set on manufacturing a fuel efficient compact car with improved technology, clever design, and overall value

A detailed full line-up will be confirmed closer to the launch, but the range will be wider than the current Figo range with more derivatives and specification grades. Both petrol and diesel models will be available. Customers will also have the choice of manual or automatic transmissions. The interior is also completely new, promising more comfort, space and enhanced quality. To appeal to tech-savvy buyers, features will include a new device-docking station that serves as the driver's connection point to the world of mobility, Bluetooth with voice activation, the programmable MyKey function, as well as electronic climate control.

Safety is also a top priority, with a minimum of dual front airbags, extending to full-length side airbags. This is backed up by ABS brakes across the range, plus an electronic stability programme with hill launch assist on the top derivatives. The eye-catching styling is in line with the rest of Ford’s current range, boasting cues like the distinctive trapezoidal grille.
