Most have already accepted BMW's new naming strategy, where odd numbers are reserved for their saloon offerings and even numbers are designated to their two-door models. But it can get a little confusing. Like in the case of the new 4 Series Gran Coupe. Which sports four doors.

The more practical 4 Series is now available through BMW dealerships nationwide. We caught a glimpse of it in the flesh at the recent M3 and M4 launch and concede that it is a striking looker. You could describe it as a 3 Series GT after an intense yoga regime.

Buyers can pick from the same array of petrol and engine mills that serve in the 3 Series and 4 Series Coupe. From the 435i (225kW and 400Nm) to the 428i (180kW and 350Nm) all the way down to the 420i (135kW and 270Nm). In typical BMW fashion, you can specify yours with a variety of styling lines, including that mean-looking M Sport package.

The good news is that it's not significantly more expensive than the normal 4 Series. The 420i for example starts at R480 900, R1900 more than its two-door sibling. You'll pay R512 400 to get into the 420d, R554 900 for the 428i and R712 400 more the 435i.
