If there's one car we love to hate here at IgnitionLive it's the Datsun GO. It's cheap. It's nasty. It's unsafe. It flunked its Global NCAP crash test in spectacular fashion (). And yet somehow there are still people fool enough to actually buy it. Last year 5 645 of them found homes here in South Africa – a figure that makes it the 7th most popular car in the hotly-contested A-segment class of vehicles. This year sales seem to be a little slower. To date 2 757 of these irksome econoboxes have driven off the showroom floor. So to ignite some interest and maybe attract some more unsuspecting customers, Datsun has just released the GO Remix.
Limited to 200 examples the R159 900 Remix is basically a R119 900 GO Lux (the one equipped with the afterthought airbag) modified in the age-old Zef tradition. Which means that in addition to front and rear spoilers you also score side-skirts, a roof spoiler plus a set of 15-inch alloy wheels. Inside you won't find rear inertia reel seatbelts but you will find an "all-new dark interior," a Datsun GO carpet set and a Blaupunkt Bluetooth radio. Yep, like the great Rodriguez so eloquently put it on his classic 1970 album, Cold Fact, "A monkey in silk is a monkey no less." – Thomas Falkiner
