South Africa's 2010 World Cup organisers are considering over-the-counter ticket sales due to sluggish ticket applications for matches featuring Bafana Bafana and other African countries.

Danny Jordaan, head of the local organising committee, is concerned that fans are not snapping up tickets for games featuring South Africa, Cameroon, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Nigeria.

Jordaan told told Talk Radio 702 this morning that this was due to South Africa's "culture of waiting ... and buying late".

He said he was convinced that over-the-counter ticket sales - where fans simply walk in, pay and walk out with their tickets, will accelerate tickets sales for the soccer showpiece.

Jordaan said although ticket applications for the opening match (between South Africa and Mexico) and the final were oversubscribed, soccer fans can still apply before January 22 as the tickets will be allocated through a random draw process.
