Five people were killed and three others injured when a truck crashed into two cars and another truck on the N3 Johannesburg-bound near Estcourt on Monday, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.
The two cars, a Daewoo and a BMW, were stopped behind a truck on the Midway off-ramp intersection when another truck ploughed into them around 6.30pm, ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said.
The two cars were sandwiched between the trucks. Two people in the Daewoo and all three occupants of the BMW were killed.
One occupant in the Daewoo was critically injured while another two were seriously hurt. The occupants of both trucks were not harmed.
