Teen arrested after allegedly beating dad to death for 'abusing' mom

An 18-year-old from the Dowa district in Malawi was reportedly arrested following reports that he beat his "abusive" father to death.

According to Malawi24, the teenager, Lewis Kachigamba, allegedly intervened when his father, Genesis, 44, came home drunk and started abusing his wife.

Lewis is said to have watched as his father insulted his mother, but lost his temper and started beating him until he died.

A post-mortem revealed that Genesis died of internal bleeding.

Lewis was set to appear in court soon on murder charges.

In January, Patricia Kaliati, the Minister of Gender, expressed concern over the rising incidents of deaths due to domestic violence and marital problems.
