Some of the world’s greatest inventions and achievements that make life a little easier were accomplished by Africans. As we celebrate Africa Day‚ here are a few standouts we've picked... HOW TO WEAR MAKE-UP: Although most historians agree that is impossible to know with certainty who invented make-up‚ the art of wearing cosmetics was invented by the ancient Egyptians around 12‚000 years ago. CARDIO PAD: Arthur Zang‚ a Cameroonian‚ invented the CardioPad in 2012 when he was just 24 years old. The CardioPad is a touch screen medical tablet that enables heart examinations to be performed from remote areas‚ sparing patients from rural or outlying areas the trouble of travelling to urban centres for medical examinations. This is the first medical tablet invented in Africa. THE KAYOOLA BUS: Africa’s first solar powered bus was invented by a team of Ugandans. The bus operates on two batteries‚ one of which can be charged by solar panels installed on the roof. THE KREEPY KRAULY: The swimming pool cleaner was invented by Ferdinand Chauvier. Many incorrectly believe that he was South African. Chauvier was actually a Congolese man who moved to Springs‚ east of Johannesburg. ..
