A South African fire detection system will be used to deal with Angola's wildfire problem, the CSIR said on Wednesday.
Spokeswoman Cat van Rooyen said the system was created at the Mereka Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria.
It had been dubbed the Advanced Fire Information System (AFIS).
"The implementation of AFIS in Angola forms part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the CSIR and the National Technology Centre of the Angolan ministry of science and technology."
"Angola is the most fire-prone country in Africa, and AFIS aims to help the Angolan government address the problem. It is a real-time, wide area wild-fire detection, monitoring and alerting system that utilises satellite imaging."
It detected fires, alerted infrastructure owners, land managers, disaster management teams, and fire protection personnel.
CSIR optronic sensor systems group manager Lee Annamalai, said the AFIS was already in pilot operation in six countries.
