Twitter has caused another social media uproar as pictures of young Israelis watching bombs falling on Gaza are posted.

The photographs show a group of people in the southern Israeli town of Sderot sitting in camping chairs, eating popcorn and cheering on top of a hill. They were taken by a Danish journalist, Allan Sorensen, according to a Huffington Post report.

Sorensen said he was looking for a place to watch the raids on the Palestinian territory in order to better understand the situation when he came upon the carefree onlookers.

“On both sides there is a total lack of empathy that I have never seen before.”

The post has been retweeted over 10 000 times.

“There were people aged 60 and 70 but also young people. On the other hand I didn’t see any children. I think it has something to do with the fact that the area isn’t secure. A few days ago a rocket hit the lower part of the hill which is in range,” said Sorensen.

Sorensen said he got the feeling that people didn't think they were acting untoward. He asked some of them to comment. “It’s great to be here,” said an onlooker Aaron Dew. “You can feel the thunder and see the rockets. It is a quest for excitement."
