A truck driver is lucky to alive after his leg was attacked by a rare type of bug that made his leg swell to double its size in only 30 minutes.

Colin Sines’ leg was infected by an aggressive disease called necrotising fasciitis when he was on shift. He had to cut away his boot with a knife after his leg swelled to double its normal size in half an hour, according to the Mirror.

“I was in excruciating pain, it was so intense,” he said.

After being rushed to the hospital where surgeons removed the diseased flesh from his right leg, he slipped into a 12-day coma, experiencing hallucinations and nightmares.

The loss of movement made Sines gain weight, exacerbating his Type 2 diabetes.  Since then he has joined an online support group for people with diabetes and has since shed the weight, greatly reducing the severity of his diabetes.

However he still cannot walk after the bug attack and the chances of his walking again do not look good.
