Having trouble urinating? There is an app for that.

Researchers have found that the sound of running water does in fact help you urinate - even if you're playing it on your phone according to a study published at PlosOne.

The sample was quite small - eighteen male patients suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms.

The eighteen men had their bladders scanned once weekly for two weeks with and without using a smartphone app that played river sounds.

The researchers found that the sound of the flowing river - lead to a 'significant increase in mean peak flow rate'.

Other flow parameters weren't effected.

That said, this still means that the phone application may help people void their bladders.
