A two meter python had to go to rehab after it was rescued from a meth lab in New South Wales.

According to The Telegraph, the snake absorbed the narcotics through its skin while living in the lab, and showed signs of being addicted to the drugs.

The snake was put into the care of prisoners and guards of the John Maroney Correctional Centre as it was weened off the drugs, InUth Beta reports.

Senior overseer Ian Mitchell at the Corrective Services NSW Wildlife Care Centre in Windsor told journalists this was quite the task.

While pythons can be a bit snappy, they are normally fairly relaxed snakes - unless of course they are suffering from withdrawal.

This particular snake latched onto Mitchell’s hand at least once, and behaved erratically.

It took the python at least a month to get the drugs out of its system, and seven months to return to normal.

According to NewsHub it is now due to be reintegrated into society – where hopefully it will manage to stay clean and away from bad influences.
