Three sisters were allegedly attacked by an unknown man who stabbed one of them to death and raped another in Sundu Hills near Dozen Hoek, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Sunday.
"Three sisters were sleeping [on Saturday night] when one of them decided to go outside and get fresh air. She was met by an unknown man who was armed with a knife," said Superintendent Vincent Mdunge.
The armed man allegedly tried to attack the girl but she managed to get away, he said.
"The second sister heard something was happening and went to investigate. The man allegedly then stabbed her to death."
When the third girl heard her sisters' cries, she went out to check what was happening, only to find one of her sisters dead.
The man is alleged to have then threatened her with a knife before taking her to a railway line where he raped her.
While raping the girl, "something disturbed him" and he took the girl to another house where he allegedly continued to rape her in the outside toilet.
Mdunge said the girl eventually managed to escape and alerted the neighbours of what had happened.
No arrests have beenmade. Police were searching for the man, said Mdunge.
