Stocks edged higher yesterday after investors made last-minute portfolio adjustments before the end of the quarter.



The mood in the market was upbeat yesterday after a report that consumer confidence grew more than expected in March.

A separate report has found that home prices inched higher for the eighth straight month.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose for a fourth day, adding 12 to close at 10907. The S&P 500 index was up less than 1 at 1173 and the Nasdaq composite index was up 6 at 2411.
