The ANC in Tshwane will meet today to decide on whether or not to take action against mayor Gwen Ramokgopa for putting the organisation into disrepute.

This follows a scathing letter penned by senior advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza, the chairman of the Judicial Services Commission, who was appointed to investigate allegations of maladministration, irregularities and misconduct against suspended city manager Kiba Kekana.

He wrote to Ramokgopa, expressing his displeasure at her ''gross interference''.

''I do not intend to undermine your role as executive mayor, but I believe you are wrong to interfere with me in the manner in which you have been doing," the letter read.

In the letter, dated March 3 2010, Ntsebeza said Ramokgopa dismissed some of his work as ''laughable'' and had five charges - with the potential to implicate Ramokgopa in wrong-doing, removed from Kekana's charge sheet.

Today, the ANC's regional office bearers in Tshwane will meet over the matter, as it has given the party "a lot of negative publicity".

A council meeting on the matter will also be held on Thursday.

"We have lost confidence in her, and for her, it is a matter of survival as she is busy lobbying to be the deputy chairman in the province with hopes of becoming the next premier,'' said an official close to the investigation.

Tshwane ANC secretary Elias Motloutse said: "The only thing we can say is the allegations have been viewed i n a serious light. We still reiterate our trust and confidence i n the advocate."

Ramokgopa's spokeswoman referred all queries to municipality speaker Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa's office.

Mkhatshwa's spokeswoman, Bakang Motlhage, denied Ramokgopa's interference in the investigation.

Ntsebeza said he was not at liberty to comment.
