Suspended labour department director general Jimmy Manyi's disciplinary hearing will be held on September 1.

Manyi appeared before a disciplinary committee on July 27, but he requested a postponement, department spokesman Mzobanzi Jikazana said on Sunday.

Jikazana would neither confirm whether Manyi faced 13 charges, nor whether he had legal representation, as reported in the Sunday Times.

"I could not comment any further," he said.

The newspaper reported Manyi was facing 13 charges, ranging from misconduct to insubordination, after a fall-out with Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana.

The row was apparently sparked by Manyi's serving as president of the Black Management Forum and labour department DG at the same time.

He allegedly offered the services of his consultancy at a meeting with representatives of the Norwegian embassy in March. The embassy complained to the department.

Manyi was also accused of disrespecting Mdladlana in meetings, allegedly telling the minister to conclude lengthy speeches.

Manyi further allegedly approved the appointment of an executive manager in his office on a high salary, allegedly failed to declare companies he was involved in and committed the department into funding investigations at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.
