Teenager arrested for alleged kidnapping

A teenager who allegedly kidnapped a four-month-old baby boy on Sunday because she "liked him" was arrested yesterday.

Soweto police spokesman Warrant officer Kay Makhubela said the baby was recovered unharmed, but would still be examined by a doctor.

He said when police asked the 18-year-old why she had taken the child, she told them that she “liked the baby”.

The baby had been left in the care of his uncle on Sunday while his mother went to work.

Police do not know how the teenager gained access to the house, but they found a cellphone they believed belonged to her. Photographs on the phone were used to help trace the teenager. —
