The 26-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of British tourist Anni Dewani will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court today on charges of murder and hijacking.

The man, who police would not confirm was the taxi driver who transported Anni and her husband, Shrien Dewani, was arrested on Tuesday morning and has been under interrogation since.

Investigating officer Captain Frederick van Wyk could not be reached last night, but a spokesman for Western Cape community safety MEC Albert Fritz, Melany Kuhn, said police where now looking for a second suspect in the case.

She refused to say if the taxi driver was the one appearing in court today, saying only: "We don't want to jeopardise the case."

Anni, 28, a Swedish-born engineer who had been married for less than two weeks to Shrien Dewani, 31, was found murdered in Khayelitsha on Saturday night.

Shrien, who runs the family's chain of nursing homes, told British newspapers they spent Saturday touring vineyards in the Cape and then went out for dinner.

Anni apparently wanted to have a look at "the real Africa" after they dined in Somerset West and the couple asked their taxi driver to make a detour into a township on the way back to their luxury hotel.

The driver got lost and the vehicle was hijacked by two armed men in Gugulethu.
