Five pupils from Jules High School were arrested for possession of drugs and alcohol, the Gauteng department of community safety said.

Three boys were found in possession of dagga and a girl, 14, with a 200 millilitre bottle of Klipdrift, community safety spokesman Thapelo Moiloa said in a statement.

Another girl was found with 10 unidentified tablets.

The girl said they were headache tablets but after an investigation by police they were found to be drugs, he said.

"Due to the fact that the pupils are minors, the station commissioner outlined the process to involve notifying their parents, as well as appearing before a probation officer who will assess corrective measures to take."

Community Safety MEC Nonhlanhla Mazibuko expressed her dismay saying a school environment was meant to be a centre for learning and teaching.

"We are going to act decisively to root out this act of criminality within the school environment in line with school safety program," she said.

The pupils were caught during a joint crime awareness program between the community safety and education departments, the police and the Independent Complaints Directorate, Moiloa said.

Pupils at the school were searched on Monday as they entered school property.

Jules High School hit headlines last month after a 15-year-old pupil accused two boys of drugging and raping her.

They allegedly filmed the incident on their cellphones..

The girl later admitted in court that it was consensual sex.

All three were charged with statutory rape by the national director of public prosecutions Advocate Menzi Simelane last week.
