The African National Congress Youth League on Sunday welcomed new ANC leaderships elected at party congresses held in the North West and Western Cape provinces.

"We call on the elected leadership to work towards building unity in their provinces and to consolidate a concrete, clear and focused programme for the victory of the ANC in the upcoming local government elections," league spokesman Floyd Shivambu said in a statement on Sunday.

Shivambu said the outcomes of the congresses reflected the strong position of the league in the provinces.

"We are particularly proud that ANC Youth League national executive

committee member Kabelo Mataboge and former ANC YL national executive committee member Songezo Mjongile are elected as provincial secretaries of the North West and Western Cape respectively," Shivambu said.

"Their election is a confirmation that the ANC Youth League is a factory for genuine, progressive and appreciated leadership for the ANC and entire National Liberation Movement."

"The outcomes of these congresses are evidence that the ANC Youth League is a critical body of opinion within the ANC."
