A power outage sparked protests among residents of Noordgesig, Soweto, yesterday.

They threw stones at vehicles and blocked roads with burning tyres and rocks. Gauteng police spokesman Captain Katlego Mogale said police were still patrolling the area last night. She said one person was arrested for public violence.

City Power said the electricity cuts were caused by temporary "extra loading" on the Noordgesig network.
