The families of six women who died at the Struisbult Care Centre fire have still not been located, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality said on Wednesday.

The families of six women who died at the Struisbult Care Centre fire have still not been located, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality said on Wednesday.

"Already some of the families have buried their loved ones. We are appealing to members of the public to assist us in locating the relatives of the remaining victims so that they may also lay their loved ones to rest," Ekurhuleni spokesman Zweli Dlamini said.

Twelve women died after a fire broke out at the centre on June 12. Only six of the victims were identified.

The Gauteng department of health and social services had implemented a DNA process to assist in identifying the women, but more help was needed, Dlamini said.

"If our current process of searching for family members does not yield results, the authorities will have to decide on the way forward," he said.

At a memorial for the 12 woman on June 15, Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele said that if the centre had complied with health and safety regulations the fire could have been prevented.
