A 65-year-old woman has allegedly been robbed and raped by three men at her home near Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape.

The woman was alone in her house in Dalisile Village when three men kicked open the door at 8pm on Tuesday night, said Lt-Col Mzukisi Fatyela.

"They pointed guns at the woman before they took turns raping her. They then robbed her of R1000 cash, which was part of the government's old age grant she received during that day."

Fatyela said the police arrested a 23-year-old man in the village a few hours later.

He had been charged with murder and robbery and would appear in the Dalisile Periodical Court on Friday.

"The two other suspects are still at large, but their arrests are imminent," said Fatyela.

He said the woman had been taken to a place of safety where she was receiving counselling.
