Metrorail train services have been suspended on the Berlin-East London line after a train carriage was set on fire.

Metrorail manager, Thembekile Swart, told the SABC the carriage was torched on Wednesday evening at the Dawn station after technicians replaced the locomotive following technical faults.

Swart said passengers became impatient and started the fire inside the carriage.

He said technicians would "work around the clock" to fix the overhead power line, the SABC reported on Thursday.
