The man who kidnapped and killed schoolgirl Louise de Waal in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg, yesterday has handed himself over to police in the KwaZulu-Natal town of Margate.

The Krugersdorp police's Family Violence Child Abuse and Sexual Offences unit investigating officer, Peet du Toit, said the suspect had called him.

"He phoned me," he said.

Du Toit earlier called the man's brother and asked him to convince him to call du Toit because, "it was in his best interests".

Eventually at 5am this morning the man handed himself in to police at the seaside resort town's police station where he told the Du Toit that he had kidnapped de Waal.

The man faces charges of murder, rape, sexual assault and kidnapping and will appear in the Roodepoort or Krugersdorp Magistrates court on Monday next week.

In a dramatic revelation, police said the suspect, who hasn't been named as he is yet to appear in court, is believed to be the Sunday Rapist because of the same modus operandi used.

However police say that they cannot yet link him conclusively to the other ten cases.
