Woman flung from jetski into wall at Vaal dam

A woman was injured when she was flung to a wall while jetskiing on the Vaal Dam, paramedics said on Sunday.

She and a man were pulling into the marina on the Deneysville side of the dam on Saturday when the jet ski suddenly turned and the woman was flung off, said ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson.

"Unfortunately, they had been right near a wall, and the woman was flung into it," she said.

The 24-year-old woman was pulled from the water before paramedics were called.

She was treated for possible back and neck injuries, a dislocated hip and multiple scrapes and abrasions before being taken to the Medi-clinic in Vereeniging, said Jackson.

The man was not injured.

In a separate incident, a married couple had to be rescued when their 26 foot yacht capsized near Groot Eilandin on the Vaal dam, said the National Sea Rescue Institute. "The couple, from Boksburg in the East Rand, were taken onboard our rescue craft and they were found to be not injured," said spokesman Craig Lambinon.

"It is not known what caused the yacht to capsize, but an investigation will be conducted," he said.
