The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) accepted a revised wage offer from platinum mining company Lonmin on Friday, the union said.

"NUM has put forward a wage demand of 11% to which the company responded with 10% for category three and four for year one and 9% for category five to nine in year one," NUM spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said in a statement.

Lonmin offered 10% for category three in the second year only and 9% for categories four to nine in the second year.

"NUM had pushed hard for category four to be included on the 10% offer for year two which the company did not agree to."

The offer was presented to union members on Thursday.

Other issues such as medical aid contributions for spouses and children, and implementation dates for the agreement have been referred to task teams.

"Members of NUM overwhelmingly voted in favour of the offer and the union signed on the dotted line this afternoon," Seshoka said.
