Three high school boys are to appear in the High Court in Johannesburg in June for murdering a 59-year-old Randfontein man, it was reported on Wednesday.

Beeld reported that the killing took place on a smallholding in Dwarskloof, near Randfontein, on July 8. An unnamed source told the newspaper it was a race-based attack.

It took place exactly a decade after four Waterkloof teenagers killed a homeless man and assaulted another in a park.

According to the newspaper, one of the boys involved the latest attack was 16 and two were 17. They were pupils at Jan Viljoen high school in Randfontein, Monument high school in Krugersdorp and a Free State high school.

The case was postponed because one of them had appointed a new lawyer who needed time to prepare.

According to Beeld, the charge sheet showed that the boys stabbed to death Ntshola Petrus Modise when he tried to flee.

They ran away when someone saw them and fired a warning shot.

Two of them were traced by the community and arrested and the third was found in a Krugersdorp hospital where he was being treated for a head wound.

In the bail application after their arrest it emerged that they were found with gloves, balaclavas and a telescope sight.
