ANC denies Vavi accusation

The African National Congress has denied accusing Cosatu of exaggerating the plight of the poor in South Africa.

It said on Wednesday it was disappointed at a suggestion by Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi to this effect.

Vavi reportedly told protesters in Johannesburg earlier in the day about the purported accusation by the ruling party.

The ANC said in a statement: At no stage were such sentiments expressed in any ANC statement, nor ANC spokesperson, including, Cde Jackson Mthembu expressed such sentiments."
