North West police will launch an internal investigation into what happened to the case of a Limpopo man last seen in the company of the convicted William Nkuna 11 years ago.

Nkuna is serving life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Constable Francis Rasuge, who was last seen in his company on August 27, 2004 outside a hairdressing salon in Temba near Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria. Her remains were dug up in his garden four weeks ago.

Former businessman and manager of SP Penton Hotel in Midrand, Reuben Kabini, 42, disappeared about three years earlier after he was seen with Nkuna. They were together on December 2 2001 in Temba.

Kabini's Nissan Sentra was later found burnt out in the veld in Bosplaas, near Hammanskraal. When police took the family to the scene the next day, the car had disappeared.

The police last spoke to Kabini's family about four years after his disappearance to tell them that they had found his cellphone in the possession of the late constable's sister.

Brigadier Thulane Ngubane of the North West police said they would comment on the case only after studying the docket.

He said the current head of North West Hawks, Major-General Ntebo Jan Mabula, and crime intelligence boss Lieutenant-General Richard Mdluli should be able to shed light on the matter since they were involved in the investigation.

A memorial service for Rasuge is scheduled for the Detective Academy (the old Hammanskraal Police Training College) on April 11 and the funeral for April 14, said the deceased's sister, Mamikie Rasuge.
