A cyclist was killed when he was hit by a car on the Old Vereeniging Road in Alrode, Alberton on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.

"The incident is purported to be linked to road rage," said Netcare 911 spokesman Jeffrey Wicks.

A minibus taxi allegedly forced the car off the road after an altercation.

"The car then struck the cyclist who was flung from his bicycle."

Paramedics found the cyclist in a critical condition, and he later died on the scene.
