Retired crack detective Piet Byleveld has reportedly been asked to help with an investigation into the murder of former cricketer Louis Vorster.

Beeld newspaper reports Byleveld said Protea's cricketer, Albie Morkel, had asked him to do so.

"If people ask me I will always help," Byleveld was quoted as saying.

"At the moment I am still in Cape Town but will return to Gauteng on Monday when I will look at the details of the matter." The publication said Morkel could not be reached for comment,

Vorster was shot dead in his car at a filling station next to the N14 beween Krugersdorp and Pretoria earlier in the week.

A package on the seat next to him was taken after the shooting.

Voster reportedly had thousands of rands in cash with him, apparently to buy two generators valued at R150,000.
