Benni McCarthy has welcomed Roger De Sa at Orlando Pirates and pledged his unconditional support to the new coach in his quest to help Bucs win more trophies.
Confirming on Twitter that he would be out of action for six weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained in Bafana's friendly against Brazil, McCarthy said he did not believe in holding grudges.
This was after McCarthy clashed on the touchline with De Sa during the Telkom Knockout final in Durban won 3-1 by Bucs.
Some unprintable words wereexchanged between McCarthy and De Sa, who was backed by his then assistant coach, Eric Tinkler.
After the match, McCarthy went a step further by saying: "Tinkler and De Sa are dead to me.
"They are non-existent in my life and I am pretty sure I don't exist in their's too."
De Sa was named the new Pirates coach on Monday after Augusto Palacios was relieved of his duties following a back operation.
But yesterday McCarthy tweeted: "Everybody sometimes says things in the heat of the moment that they will regret, so can't hold grudges.
"We hope we can win more trophies and conquer Africa with him [De Sa] at the helm," he said.
"I will make sure the [new] coach gets the very best from everyone in the team."
"[Orlando Pirates] chairman [Irvin Khoza] is a very wise man," said McCarthy, clearly throwing his weight behind the decision to employ De Sa.
On the departure of Palacios, McCarthy said: "Very sad for the loss of coach Palacios, but we've got to move on and face the new challenges."
De Sa was introduced to the players and members of the technical staff at Rand Stadium by Khoza yesterday.
