Ball is in Chiefs' court to be No1

It has been one of Kaizer Chiefs' best starts to a league season in recent years.

And the unbeaten Amakhosi will want to regain top spot in the Absa Premiership with the second take of their fixture against Black Leopards at Soccer City tonight.

Chiefs were 2-0 up against Lidoda Duvha on Saturday night before the match was abandoned after 32 minutes due to a severe hailstorm.

The early goals were courtesy of the in-form strike pairing of Bernard Parker and Kingston Nkatha.

Amakhosi appeared set to cruise to a comfortable victory, which would have seen them reclaim the league lead from Maritzburg United.

Now the Chiefs players have to lift themselves from being denied an almost certain victory against a Leopards side who start from scratch after having been given a reprieve.

But Chiefs defender Lincoln Zvayisa believes his side are in good enough form to lift themselves again tonight . "We play to win and I am sure I speak for all my teammates that we will do our best once more to win the game," Zvayisa said.

The Zimbabwean was given a rare start partnering Tefu Mashamaite in central defence, in Eric Mathoho's absence.

Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter said this week he had yet to decide whether to field Mathoho and midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala, the two key players who missed the abandoned match.

Tshabalala was rested having been on Bafana Bafana duty the previous week.

Mathoho was excused due to a bereavement in the family.

"I was pleased with what I saw in the 30 minutes or so that we played and we will have to build on that," Baxter said.

Chiefs have recovered from a shambolic first match of the season - a 4-1 MTN8 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi are arguably the PSL's form side along with Moroka Swallows.

They have won two and drawn one of their league matches, and Baxter has got Amakhosi well organised.

Goalscoring was one of their weak points last season following the departure of prolific Zimbabwean Knowledge Musona to the Bundesliga.

Parker especially has filled that role well for Amakhosi so far this season.

Leopards, though, appear a more confident outfit than the side that fought relegation for much of last season. They will hope to make more of their second chance against Chiefs.
