"What the hell were we thinking . were we thinking at all?" croons Kahn Morbee, of the Parlotones, in their smash hit Giant Mistake- and they will pray that those words were not prophetic this weekend.

The six-times SA Music Awards-winning quartet has challenged its most ardent fans to stay up on Friday night and help with the shooting of a video for their new song, Shake It Up.

Freelance director Eban Olivier wants a parade music video in which the band will play the song and a few other new tunes on the back of a truck with, they hope, hundreds of fans in tow.

Raphael Domalik, who manages the band, said the parade will begin at Mary Fitzgerald Square, in Newtown, Johannesburg, at 11pm on Friday and will end at Ellis Park before 1am.

Domalik said the more fans "the merrier".

The meeting time is a little curious, but the band has an international following and time-zones therefore have to be taken into consideration.

Later on Saturday, they bid farewell to Mzansi and head Stateside, where they will be based in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future.

"We will visit South Africa as often as we can, so even though we are changing our base we are not leaving the country behind," Domalik assured fans.

How will the living arrangements work in the City of Angels?

Domalik said: "When the band arrives in LA they will all move into one house with a rehearsal room and start working on the new album.

"The first show is scheduled just two days after they land in LA, at the legendary Viper Room. This show is just a house-warming party of sorts and will be for select fans and the industry."

They will then traverse the entire US on a 30-city tour, promoting the new single and an upcoming extended play disc that has been recorded and is ready for release next month.

In the middle of all this will be the 55th Grammy Awards at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

The Parlotones have been invited to watch closely how the top nominees, including Frank Ocean, Kelly Clarkson, indie-rock group Fun, and The Black Keys, fare.
