Taxi drivers barricade Allandale Road in protest

Taxi drivers barricaded Allandale Road, in Midrand, on Wednesday, in protest about taxi routes, the Johannesburg metro police department said.

"They had barricaded the road early in the morning and caused a major traffic congestion. The road has now been opened again.... The situation remains tense," said chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Traffic was delayed from Klipfontein towards the N1 highway.

Metro police were monitoring the situation.
