South African Football Association deputy president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana will fight fresh attempts to suspend him for allegedly writing a letter to Fifa, complaining about the executive committee's decision to overturn the emergency committee's decision to suspend five officials named in a match-fixing report.

Safa's national executive committee reinstated the officials, saying the emergency committee did not have the authority to take such action.

"It is true I wrote to Fifa, but to clarify a constitutional matter," Non-konyana said.

"There is confusion around the powers of the emergency committee. It's a lie that I told Fifa that I was unhappy the executive committee overturned the decision of the emergency committee."

There is another Safa executive meeting tomorrow in Johannesburg at which, it is said, four officials - including Nonkonyana - will be suspended.

"I don't know about plans to suspend me, but I will fight any attempts to remove me from office," he said.

"I was legally elected to serve football as vice-president of Safa by the football family. I did absolutely nothing wrong; that's why I'm not worried.

"The most important thing is for all of us to work together for the success of South African soccer, not only Bafana Bafana, but in all competitions."

The issue of suspending the four senior Safa officials was supposed to be discussed at the original executive committee meeting two weeks ago, where only one item was dealt with from 10am to 6pm.

"There are four officials that we are planning to suspend on Saturday for bringing the federation into disrepute. We mean business about cleaning up our sport: expect fireworks," said one Safa executive committee member who asked not to be named.

Tomorrow's meeting will also deal with the Fifa match-fixing report after Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula announced last weekend that a judicial commission of inquiry will get to the bottom of the issue.

The status of the inquiry - an independent one or a full judicial commission - has divided the Safa executive into two groups.

Mbalula said the judicial commission of inquiry would go ahead after the South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee approved the move.

FIFA announced yesterday that its secretary-general, Jerome Valcke, will meet Mbalula and Safa president Kirsten Nematandani in Geneva today to discuss the allegations that several of South Africa's warm-up matches before the 2010 World Cup were fixed. - Sapa-AP
