A man accused of invading a soccer pitch and assaulting a referee with a vuvuzela appeared briefly in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Velaphi Mkwanazi appeared with Zenzele Zikali, who is accused only of pitch invasion. They were released on bail of R500 each and will be back in court on April 30.

Mkwanazi allegedly invaded the Moses Mabhida Stadium soccer pitch during a match on Saturday, wielding a vuvuzela which he used to hit the referee.

This happened after the referee sent off a player in the match between Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs.

Zikali also allegedly ran onto the field.
