Two security guards and a pensioner were shot dead in a shoot-out in Durban on Friday, police said.

Captain Thulani Zwane said a group of men opened fire at a pension pay out point in the Lindelani area of Durban's KwaMashu township.

A pensioner died at the scene, while two security guards died at a nearby clinic where they had been taken.

Three other people were injured, and one of the armed robbers was arrested. The others escaped in a getaway car.

Zwane said the security guards' guns were taken by the robbers, but none of the pension money was stolen.
