A man suspected of murdering Durban businessman Nhlanhla Gasa appeared briefly in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Mbulelo Arthur Nhlauzana, 25, faces charges of murder, robbery, and malicious damage to property.

The case was postponed to April 23 to allow him to consult with his lawyer. He was remanded in custody at the Durban North police station cells.

Nhlauzana was arrested in Groutville on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast late on Saturday.

Gasa's body was found floating in the Tugela River four weeks ago.

Residents saw the corpse and called police. Gasa, 63, had sustained multiple wounds.

He is the father of South African TV personality Noni Gasa.

Last month, police found his burnt-out Jaguar car several metres away from where his body was discovered.

Officers then went to his home in Umhlanga, where they found blood stains, but no indication that valuables had been taken from the house.

Police confirmed that Gasa was attacked at his house and then taken to the river.
