The Tshwane metro municipality has cut the electricity supply to the Roodeplaat Community Hall after failing to settle its own arrears of just over R16 000.
The Beeld reported that officials in the building, north-east of Pretoria, were recently puzzled when a payment reminder to settle municipal debt was sent to the building where Tshwane residents access numerous services, including vehicle licence renewals.
Power supply to the building, which is owned and managed by the Tshwane metro, was cut off last week.
Officials working on the premises have reportedly been sitting in the dark ever since and have been referring residents to municipal offices in the city.
