Five Limpopo pupils will jet off to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City later this year after winning the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement national schools debate on Saturday.

Eric Seabela, Lehlogonolo Letsoalo, Lesetja Masoga, Khomotso Sebake and Ntshepe Matlou researched and proposed methods to improve the management of the water supply.

Kimberley High School teacher Mavis Boachie-Yiadom said: "Not many [Northern Cape] children are exposed to such debating competitions, but this has shown them that they are a match for their peers who are."

SAASTA managing director Jabu Nukeri said: "Not only will these pupils take the research back home with them, but they will be able to engage with their communities on issues such as water conservation, which affect them as well."
