Two people were arrested on Saturday in connection with a break in at musician Lerato “Lira” Molapo’s house in Randburg, Gauteng police said.

A 24-year-old man was caught with some of the stolen items at a house not far from Molapo’s home, said Lt-Col Katlego Mogale.

“The second suspect, aged 26, alleged to be the owner of the house, handed himself to the police.”  The burglary happened on Friday night while Molapo and her husband were attending a Women’s Day celebration.

The thieves apparently entered the house through the back sliding door which was broken, said Mogale.

They stole items that included 10 SA Music Awards, laptops, iPods, a music system, cash from the safe and a spare key for the safe.

Police recovered two iPods, two MAC Apple laptops, an amplifier, a cellphone and an Xbox 360.

The men were expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
