A last-minute goal by Fernando Torres, the result of a mix-up between Manchester City's Joe Hart and Matija Nastasic, gave Chelsea a 2-1 win in the top-of-the-table clash at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

Hart and Nastasic both went for a hopeful long ball by Chelsea which Hart could easily have left alone.

Nastasic managed to head the ball past Hart and Torres chased the loose ball and scored in the open goal.

Andre Schurrle had given Chelsea the lead in the 33rd minute after more great work by Torres, who looked back to his best at times.

Sergio Aguero equalised for City in the 49th minute, rifling a great shot on the run past Chelsea keeper Petr Cech.

Chelsea now move up to second place, two points behind leaders Arsenal, while City are in seventh, only two points ahead of neighbours Man United.

The loss through injury of Vincent Kompany may cost City more points.

Tottenham Hotspur moved up the 4th place after a dubious 80th-minute penalty was coverted by Roberto Soldado to give the team a 1-0 home victory over gallant Hull City.

Liverpool flop Fabio Borini finally got Sunderland's Premier League campaign up and running with a derby winner against bitter rivals Newcastle yesterday that he hoped would lift the gloom at the Stadium of Light.

Second-half substitute Borini handed manager Gus Poyet his first win since replacing the axed Paoli Di Canio earlier this month with a stunning strike that secured a 2-1 victory in front of a raucous home crowd.

"We hope that goal can change our season. It was a special game and we can hopefully get a few wins now," said on-loan striker Borini.

After seven defeats in eight games, Sunderland's first victory moved them off the foot of the table.

Borini, signed on loan by Di Canio in September, has struggled to adapt to English football since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in July last year.

Foot and shoulder problems limited his appearances for the five-times European champions, and, coincidentally, his only league goal in Liverpool's colours came against Newcastle in the 6-0 thumping Brendan Rodgers's side handed out in April.

Sunderland made a bright start, and went ahead after five minutes through Darren Fletcher's header, but could not build on the momentum and Newcastle hit back just before the hour when poor defending allowed Mathieu Debuchy to equalise.

In yesterday's other match Swamsea City and a defensive West Ham drew 0-0 at a wet Liberty Stadium.
